Haines, borough (2,357 sq mi/6,105 sq km; 1990 pop. 2,117), SE Alaska, on Canada (B.C.; E and NW) border, at head of Long Canal inlet (which forms part of E boundary). Main towns are Haines and Skagway. Chilkat Range to S; part of the Coast Mts. to NE; Takhinsah Mts. to W. Drained by Chilkat and Klehini rivers. Part of Tongass Natl. Forest in S and E. Haines State Forest and Chilkat State Park in center. Klondike Gold Rush Natl. Historical Site at Skagway. Tourism. Fishing; timber.
