Dobbs Ferry
 
 
Dobbs Ferry, suburb (3 sq mi/7.8 sq km; 1990 pop. 9,940) of N.Y. city, Westchester co., SE N.Y., 16 mi/26 km N of the city, on the Hudson R.; 41°00'N 73°52'W. It is mostly residential but has a chemical research laboratory. Dobbs Ferry is the site of Livingston Manor, where George Washington and Marshal Rochambeau of France are said to have planned the Yorktown Campaign. Seat of Mercy Col. and Masters School for Girls; Children’s Village, a rehabilitation school for boys, is also there. Inc. 1873.
