Coronation Gulf
 
 
Coronation Gulf, SW Franklin dist., N.W.T., Canada, arm of the Arctic Ocean, separating Victoria Isl. (N) from Mackenzie dist.; 130 mi/209 km long, 50 mi/80 km-70 mi/113 km wide; 67°42'–68°35'N 108°50'–113°30'W. Leads from Dolphin and Union Strait (W) to Queen Maud Gulf (E). Bathurst Inlet extends 120 mi/193 km S. Gulf receives Coppermine R. at Coppermine village. It forms part of Northwest Passage through the Arctic Archipelago; passage was 1st completed by Roald Amundsen, 1903–1906.
