Brazoria, town (1990 pop. 2,717), Brazoria co., 15 mi/24 km NW of Freeport, in Brazosport area, S Texas, near Brazos R., c.50 mi/80 km SSW of Houston; 29°03'N 95°34'W. In agr. area, bet. Brazos (NE) and San Bernard (SW) rivers. Original town (Old Brazoria, c.1/2mi/8/10 km away), founded in 1820s, was a port for Austin’s colony, later a cotton and rice center; it was abandoned when town moved to site on RR. Mfg.
