Brazoria, county (1,597 sq mi/4,136 sq km; 1990 pop. 191,707), S Texas; Angleton; 29°10'N 95°26'W. On Gulf of Mexico. Bounded on SW by Linville Bayou and Cedar L. Creek, on far N by Clear Creek; drained by Brazos and San Bernard rivers; Gulf Intracoastal Waterway passes along coast. Freeport (center of Brazosport industrial area) is deepwater port (ships sulphur, chemicals). Large oil, sulphur, natural gas, salt, sand and gravel production; magnesium extracted from sea water; extensive chemical industry. Irrigated agr. (rice, sorghum, corn, cotton, hay, soybeans, pecans); beef cattle. Fishing, swimming on coast. Bryan Beach (formerly Velasco) State Park in S; Brazoria Natl.
