Coteau des Prairies
 
 
Coteau des Prairies (kuh-to de PRER-EES), plateau, NE S.Dak. and SW Minn.; begins as continuation of Drift Prairie, N.Dak.; extends S, past L. Traverse and Big Stone L., area of high ground bet. James and Minnesota rivers, to Blue Earth R., N Iowa. Elev. 2,000 ft/610 m. Occupies grain and livestock region. Pipestone Natl. Monument (Minn.) in S part, quarry source for Indian peace pipes. Numerous small lakes, most natural and glacial in origin, lie sparsely scattered through region. Drained by Big Sioux R.
