James and Minnesota rivers, to Blue Earth R., N Iowa. Elev. 2,000 ft/610 m. Occupies grain and livestock region. Pipestone Natl. Monument (Minn.) in S part, quarry source for Indian peace pipes. Numerous small lakes, most natural and glacial in origin, lie sparsely scattered through region. Drained by Big Sioux R.
