Ciudad Guzmán
 
 
Ciudad Guzmán (syoo-DAHD gooz-MAHN), city (1990 pop. 72,619), Jalisco state, SW Mexico, 37 mi/60 km NNE of Colima, on Mexico Highway 54; elev. 4,944 ft/1,507 m; 19°42'N 113°28'W. Marketing and processing center, esp. for hogs, with some minor industries. Starting point for ascents of the Nevado de Colima (14,206 ft/4,330 m) and the smoking volcano, Colima (12,992 ft/3,960 m). Beans, corn, wheat. Formerly called Zapotlán el Grande, Ciudad Guzmán was a center of the pre-Columbian kingdom of Zapotlán, which was conquered by the Spanish in 1526.
