Bernalillo (buhr-nuh-LEE-o), town (1990 pop. 5,960), Sandoval co., N central N.Mex., on Rio Grande, just NW of Sandia Mts., 18 mi/29 km NNE of Albuquerque; 35°19'N 106°33'W. Elev. 5,052 ft/1,540 m. Livestock; fruit; chiles; dairying; timber. Mfg. (power tool accessories, treated wood prods.). Located in N part of Sandia Pueblo land grant. Part of Cibola Natl. Forest to SE. Coronado State Monument and State Park, to N, includes ruins of pueblos once used (1540–1542) by Coronado as hq. Village settled 1698 by Spaniards. Sandia Crest Recreational Area and Sandia Peak Ski Area to SE; San Felipe Indian Reservation to NE; Zia and Santa Ana Indian Pueblos to NW.
