Coronado, city (1990 pop. 26,540), San Diego co., S Calif., residential suburb, 2 mi/3.2 km SW of downtown San Diego, on Silver Strand (Coronado) peninsula, which separates San Diego Bay from Pacific Ocean, on the W side of San Diego Bay; 32°38'N 117°10'W. It is a well-known beach resort; mfg. (printing and publishing). The city is linked to San Diego by the Coronado Bay Bridge at the N end of the Silver Strand Peninsula. Bay entrance to W, Coronado (North Island) U.S. Naval Air Station, also to W, and Coronado Naval Amphibious Base to S. Of note is the Hotel del Coronado, a state historical monument.
