Braxton, county (516 sq mi/1,336 sq km; 1990 pop. 12,998), central W.Va.; Sutton; 38°42'N 80°43'W. On Allegheny Plateau; drained by Elk, Little Kanawha, and Birch rivers. Agr. (honey, corn, alfalfa, fruit); livestock; poultry. Mfg. (glass, fabricated metal prods., rebuilt aircraft engines, aircraft ground-support equip., military systems; machining, meat processing). Oil and natural-gas wells; coal mines; timber. Burnsville L. reservoir (Little Kanawha R.), in Burnsville Lake Wildlife Management Area in N; Sutton L. reservoir (Elk R.), in Elk River Wildlife Management Area in E. Formed 1836.
