Barren
 
 
Barren, county (499 sq mi/1,292 sq km; 1990 pop. 34,001), S Ky.; Glasgow; 36°57'N 85°55'W. Bounded SW by Barren R.; drained by Beaver and Skaggs creeks. Agr. area (hogs, cattle, poultry; burley tobacco, hay, alfalfa, soybeans, wheat, corn); oil and gas wells, hardwood timber, stone quarries. Some mfg. (especially clothing) at Glasgow. Part of Mammoth Cave Natl. Park in NW corner; Diamond Caverns and Crystal Onyx Cave also in NW; other limestone caves in co., esp. in North Barren R. L. reservoir and State Resort Park on SW boundary. Formed 1798.
