B. Everett Jordan Lake, reservoir, Chatham, Durham, and Wake cos., central N.C., on New Hope R., 18 mi/29 km S of Chapel Hill; c.18 mi/29 km long, max. 3 mi/4.8 km wide; 35°38'N 79°03'W. Max. capacity 660,664 acre-ft. Haw R. arm c.5 mi/8 km long. Formed by B. Everett Jordan Dam (103 ft/31 m high), built (1974) by the Army Corps of Engineers for flood control and water supply. Jordan L. State Recreation Area on E shore. Also called Jordan L.
