COMPUTERESE
is the special vocabulary of computer technology. It includes bits, bytes, and a great list of acronyms like RAM (random-access memory) and ROM (read-only memory), plus mouse, floppy disks and hard disks, drives, and ports, all parts of this arcane and growing lexicon. It is a jargon initiates must learn, and a surprising number of its terms are beginning to drift into extended or figurative use in the general vocabulary, as in computers being down or crashing and the like.
