confess (v.)

In Standard English intransitive confess can combine either with to plus a gerund, as in He confessed to worrying about the legality of the purchase, or with to plus a noun, as in The mayor confessed to the embezzlement. Confess is also Standard with a direct object only, as in He confessed the theft.  1
