Conflicts with Turkey resumed over the issue of missile deployment plans and the increased military capability of Cyprus because of its surface-to-air missile purchases from Russia. Turkey considered further arming its territory in northern Cyprus.
Peace accords were signed between Turkey and Greece two days after the nations agreed on plans for a pipeline that would supply fresh water to Turkish and Greek areas on Cyprus.
