Teflon
trade name for a solid, chemically inert polymer of tetrafluoroethylene (C2F4), F2C[symbol]CF2. Stable up to temperatures around 572°F (300°C), Teflon is used in electrical insulation, gaskets, and in making low-adhesion surfaces, e.g., for nonstick cookware.
