Reiner, Fritz
(rn´r) (KEY) , 18881963, American conductor, b. Budapest. After serving as conductor of the Peoples Opera in Budapest (191114) and the Court Opera in Dresden (191421), he came (1922) to the United States as conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony (192231). He was later musical director of the Pittsburgh Symphony (193848), the Metropolitan Opera (194853), and the Chicago Symphony (195362). He was known for his ruthless insistence on precision and clarity.
