Levi-Civita, Tullio
(tl´ly l´v-ch´vtä) (KEY) , 18731942, Italian mathematician. He taught at the universities of Padua (18981919) and Rome (191938) and was noted for his researches in pure geometry, hydrodynamics, celestial mechanics, and tensor analysis (see tensor), on which Einsteins work depended in part. He wrote Simplified Presentation of Einsteins Unified Field Equations (authorized tr. 1929).
