Iglesias

(gl´zyäs) (KEY) , town (1991 pop. 30,134), SW Sardinia, Italy. The zinc and lead mines of the region have been famous since the 13th cent. The influence of Pisa, which controlled Iglesias in the Middle Ages, is apparent in the Romanesque cathedral (14th–15th cent.) and the medieval castle.
