(häch´nh) (KEY) , city (1990 pop. 241,057), Aomori prefecture, N Honshu, Japan, on the Oirase River and the Pacific Ocean. It is a fishing and commercial port, agricultural market, and industrial and commercial center. The city has important steam power plants and is the center of an iron and sand-mining district. Cement, steel, and ammonium sulfate are also produced.
