( stä´´n slä´ f g ´räs) (KEY) , 181982, Spanish politician. After the overthrow (1868) of Isabella II, he became leader of the Republican party. He opposed King Amadeus and, after the latters abdication (1873), was briefly president of Spains short-lived first republic. He retired to private life when the monarchy was restored (1875). |
