Dewsbury
 
 
(dyz´br) (KEY) , town (1991 pop. 49,612), Kirklees metropolitan district, N central England, on the Calder River. It is a commercial center for heavy woolen textiles and has one of the world’s largest rag-trading markets. There are woolen mills and blanket, carpet, and shoddy factories. Other industries include engineering and the manufacturing of chemicals. Dewsbury houses several departments of the Dewsbury and Batley Technical and Art College.
