(brnär´ büf´) (KEY) , 1928–, French painter. Buffet’s melancholy paintings are characterized by a prominent black line and grayed, muddied colors. His subjects include still life, city scenes, and figures. Buffet illustrated Jean Cocteau’s La Voix Humaine (1957).
