Bryn Mawr College
at Bryn Mawr, Pa; undergraduate for women, graduate coeducational; opened 1885 by the Society of Friends, with a bequest from Joseph W. Taylor of Burlington, N.J. Modeled on a group curriculum plan at Johns Hopkins Univ., Bryn Mawr was one of the first women’s colleges in the United States to offer graduate degrees. The library is especially noted for its collection of rare books and medieval incunabula. The school maintains a cooperative program with Haverford College, Swarthmore College, and the Univ. of Pennsylvania, and an exchange program with Spelman College.
