Bekabad
 
 
(bykäbäd´) (KEY) , formerly Begovat (bygvät´) (KEY) , city (1989 pop. 82,082), Tashkent region, E Uzbekistan, on the Syr Darya River. It is an important industrial center, with a large steel mill and cement works. The Farkhad dam and hydroelectric plant, just upstream from Bekabad, is a major source of electricity and irrigation water for Uzbekistan.
