To set aside or apart for a specified purpose: allocate, appropriate, designate, earmark. See COLLECT, MONEY. 3. To regard as belonging to or resulting from another: accredit, ascribe, attribute, charge, credit, impute, lay1, refer. See GIVE. 4. To ascribe (a misdeed or an error, for example) to: affix, blame, fasten, fix, impute, pin on, place. See GIVE. 5. To appoint and send to a particular place: post2, set1, station. See PLACE. 6. Law. To change the ownership of (property) by means of a legal document: cede, deed, grant, make over, sign over. Law : alien, alienate, convey, transfer. See GIVE, LAW.
