VERB:1. To be equivalent or tantamount: amount, constitute, correspond. Idioms: have all the earmarks. See BE. 2. To be equal or alike: compare, correspond, match, measure up, parallel, touch. Informal : stack up. See SAME. 3. To do or make something equal to: match, meet1, tie. See SAME.
ADJECTIVE:1. Agreeing exactly in value, quantity, or effect: equivalent, even1, identical, same, tantamount. Idioms: on a par, one and the same. See SAME. 2. Having the necessary strength or ability: up to. See ABILITY. 3. Just to all parties: equitable, even1, evenhanded, fair. See SAME.
