VERB:1. To put an end to, especially formally and with authority: abolish, abrogate, annihilate, annul, invalidate, negate, nullify, set aside, vitiate, void. Law : extinguish. See CONTINUE. 2. To decide not to go ahead with (something previously arranged): call off. Slang : scratch, scrub. See CONTINUE. 3. To make ineffective by applying an opposite force or amount: counteract, negate, neutralize, nullify. See ACTION. 4. To remove or invalidate by or as if by running a line through or wiping clean: annul, blot (out), cross (off or out), delete, efface, erase, expunge, obliterate, rub (out), scratch (out), strike (out), undo, wipe (out), x (out).
