NOUN:1. An established position from which to operate or deal with others: basis, footing, term (often used in plural). See CONNECT. 2. Manner of being or form of existence: condition, mode, situation, state. See BE. 3. The level of credit or respect at which one is regarded by others: face, prestige, standing. See RESPECT. 4. A person's high standing among others: dignity, good name, good report, honor, prestige, reputation, repute, respect. See RESPECT. 5. Positioning of one individual vis-à-vis others: footing, place, position, rank1, situation, standing, station. See PLACE.
