NOUN:An indirect, usually cunning means of gaining an end: artifice, deception, device, feint, gimmick, imposture, jig, maneuver, ploy, ruse, sleight, stratagem, subterfuge, trick, wile. Informal : shenanigan, take-in. See HONEST, MEANS.
VERB:1. To keep away from: avoid, burke, bypass, circumvent, duck, elude, escape, eschew, evade, get around, shun. Idioms: fight shy of, give a wide berth to, have no truck with, keep (or stay) (or steer) clear of. See SEEK. 2. To avoid fulfilling or answering completely: duck, evade, hedge, sidestep, skirt.
