NOUN:1. A general impression produced by a predominant quality or characteristic: air, ambiance, aura, feel, feeling, mood, smell, tone. See BE. 2. The gaseous mixture enveloping the earth: air. See HIGH, PLACE. 3. The totality of surrounding conditions and circumstances affecting growth or development: ambiance, climate, environment, medium, milieu, mise en scène, surroundings, world. See BE, LIMITED, PLACE. 4. A distinctive yet intangible quality deemed typical of a given thing: aroma, flavor, savor, smack2. See TASTE.
