NOUN:1. A trip in a motor vehicle: ride, run. Informal : spin, whirl. See MOVE. 2. An aggressive readiness along with energy to undertake taxing efforts: enterprise, hustle, initiative, punch. Informal : get-up-and-go, gumption, push. See ACTION, TIRED, TRY. 3. An organized effort to accomplish a purpose: campaign, crusade, movement, push. See ACTION, SEEK. 4. A course affording passage from one place to another: avenue, boulevard, expressway, freeway, highway, path, road, roadway, route, street, superhighway, thoroughfare, thruway, turnpike, way. See MOVE, OPEN.
VERB:1. To force to move or advance with or as if with blows or pressure: propel, push, ram, shove, thrust. See MOVE. 2. To run and control (a motor vehicle): motor, pilot, wheel. Slang : tool. See MOVE. 3. To set or keep going: actuate, impel, mobilize, move, propel, run. See MOVE. 4. To urge to move along: herd, run. See MOVE. 5. To look for and pursue (game) in order to capture or kill it: chase, hunt, run, stalk. See SEEK. 6. To fix (an idea, for example) in someone's mind by reemphasis and repetition: drill, implant, impress, inculcate, instill, pound. See TEACH. 7. To exert one's mental or physical powers, usually under difficulty and to the point of exhaustion: fag, labor, moil, strain1, strive, sweat, toil, travail, tug, work. Idioms: break one's back (or neck) . See WORK. 8. To move or advance against strong resistance: forge2, lunge, plunge. See MOVE. 9. To cause to penetrate with force: dig, plunge, ram, run, sink, stab, stick, thrust. See PUT IN. 10. To force to work: task, tax, work. Idioms: crack the whip. See WORK.
