NOUN:1. An exciting, often hazardous undertaking: adventure, emprise, enterprise. See SAFETY. 2. Something undertaken, especially something requiring extensive planning and work: enterprise, project, undertaking. See WORK.
VERB:1. To put up as a stake in a game or speculation: bet, gamble, lay1 (down), post2, put, risk, stake, wager. Informal : go. See GAMBLING. 2. To take a risk in the hope of gaining advantage: gamble, speculate. Idioms: take a flyer. See GAMBLING. 3. To run the risk of: adventure, chance, hazard, risk. See SAFETY. 4. To have the courage to put forward, as an idea, especially when rebuff or criticism is likely: dare, hazard, presume, pretend. See TRY. 5. To expose to possible loss or damage: adventure, compromise, hazard, risk. See SAFETY.
