NOUN:1. A violent release of confined energy, usually accompanied by a loud sound and shock waves: blowout, blowup, burst, detonation, explosion, fulmination. See EXPLOSION. 2. An earsplitting, explosive noise: bang, boom, roar, thunder. See SOUNDS. 3. Slang. A big, exuberant party: celebration, shindig, shindy. Slang : bash, blowout. See GROUP, RESTRAINT, WORK. 4. A natural movement or current of air: air, blow1, breeze, gust, wind1, zephyr. Archaic : gale. See BREATH.
VERB:1. To make an earsplitting explosive noise: bang, boom, roar, thunder. See SOUNDS. 2. To spoil or destroy: blight, dash, nip1. See HELP. 3. To release or cause to release energy suddenly and violently, especially with a loud noise: blow1 (up), burst, detonate, explode, fire, fulminate, go off, touch off. See EXPLOSION.
