DEFINITION:(or yn). Root of uncertain meaning. a. cedilla, izzard, zed, zeta, from Greek zta, alteration (influenced by the following letter ta, eta) of Phoenician *zn, seventh letter of the Phoenician alphabet; b. zayin, from Hebrew zayin, from alteration of Phoenician *zn (see above).
