DEFINITION:To carry, raise, exalt; Northwest Semitic noun *zabl-, prince. a. Jezebel, from Hebrew îzebel, where is the prince?, from zebel, akin to zbûl, Zebul, a name meaning “prince” (î, where; see yy); b. Beelzebub, from Hebrew bacal zbûb, lord (of the) fly, pejorative alteration of bacal zbûl, lord prince, name of a Philistine god (see bcl and bb).
