Semitic Roots
 
ENTRY:zr.
DEFINITION:Central Semitic, to surround, gird. 1a. izar, from Arabic izr covering, loincloth, wrap, shawl; b. Mizar, from Arabic mizar, cloak, covering, Mizar. Both a and b from Arabic azara, to surround (compare also the probably denominative derived stem azzara, to clothe, cover). 2. vizier, from Arabic wazr, vizier, minister, burdened, either from zara, to help, derived stem of azara, to surround (see above), or from wazara, to carry a burden, take upon oneself (see wzr).
