| DEFINITION: | Central Semitic, to surround, gird. 1a. izar, from Arabic iz r covering, loincloth, wrap, shawl; b. Mizar, from Arabic mi zar, cloak, covering, Mizar. Both a and b from Arabic azara, to surround (compare also the probably denominative derived stem azzara, to clothe, cover). 2. vizier, from Arabic waz r, vizier, minister, burdened, either from  zara, to help, derived stem of azara, to surround (see above), or from wazara, to carry a burden, take upon oneself (see wzr). |
