Suffixed form *ost-r-. a. ostracize, ostracod, ostracon; ostracoderm, periostracum, from Greek ostrakon, shell, potsherd; b. e-grade form *est-, becoming *ast-. oyster, from Greek ostreon, oyster; c. astragal, astragalus, from Greek astragalos, vertebra, ball of the ankle joint, knucklebone, Ionic molding.
