Bosnia

SYLLABICATION:	Bos·ni·a
PRONUNCIATION:	bzn-
	1. A region that constitutes the northern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was settled by Serbs in the 7th century and became an independent state in the 12th century. Bosnia was controlled after 1463 by Turkey and after 1878 by the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which formally annexed Bosnia in 1908. After World War II Bosnia was united with Herzegovina to form a constituent republic of Yugoslavia. 2. See Bosnia and Herzegovina.
