NOUN: Greek Mythology A son of the sun god Helios who was killed by Zeus while trying to drive his father's chariot across the sky.
ETYMOLOGY:Latin Phaëtn, Phaëthn, from Greek Phaethn, from phaethn, present participle of phaethein, to shine. See bh-1 in Appendix I.
