A twentieth-century African-American jazz trumpet player and singer. His nickname, “Satchmo,” was short for “Satchel Mouth.” Armstrong, whose career spanned five decades, was celebrated for his trumpet solos and the gravelly voice in which he sang songs such as “Hello, Dolly” and “It’s a Wonderful World.”  1
