Georgian Sakartvelo, Rus. Gruziya, officially Republic of Georgia, republic (1995 est. pop. 5,726,000), c.26,900 sq mi (69,700 sq km), in W Transcaucasia. Georgia borders on the Black Sea in the west, on Turkey and Armenia in the south, on Azerbaijan in the east, and on Russia in the north.
