I ensure staff are kept safe within their day to day work by ensuring that they work to Health and Safety Law and Legislation and that this is kept up to date. Everyone in my company must comply with the health and safety procedure. We have to go on mandatory training to complete our health and safety certificate. This includes manual handling and fire safety. We must make sure our work environment is a safe as we can make it. If any accidents do occur i have to report them to my office or to the out of hours office, I must also record all accidents in the communication book so that other carers know what has happened this includes the nature of the accident, treatment received and where and when it happened. If any health and safety rules or procedures are breached then this may become a disciplinary for care staff. My line manager will always advise all care staff on and health and safety concerns that we may have.

It is everyone’s responsibility to maintain health and safety within the work place following company policies and procedures along with the legal requirements set out in government standards for social care settings.

Lastly this act states all employers must maintain all equipment to a high standard. Within Riverglade the staff must make sure all equipment used is cleaned and maintained highly to ensure nothing gets broken or the equipment is clean so no bacteria remains on it. Within employees, the act states they must not jeopardise the health and safety of others. Provide a safe workplace for employees who include facilities and work systems ensure that employees are able to safely handle equipment or substances, as well as providing a safe area to store harmful material provide the proper training, supervision, instruction and information in the performance of their roles. Facilities – we check the facilities every day for any hazards or dangers such as wet floors/hall way and any hazards that could cause accidents such as tripping over objects or slipping on wet floors. We must make sure all exits are clear and accessible in case of a fire alarm or emergencies. We check the indoor/outdoor environment
