What was Stanton’s role with the newspaper? Stanton wrote the editorial’s. 3. What was Anthony’s role with the newspaper? Anthony was the publisher. and made sure the typesetting was done by women. -1/2 4. What news did Stanton’s, and Anthony’s newspaper carry? It caried remarkable news about what women all around the country are doing. It is by women, and about women and for women. 5. After 2.5 years, why did The Revolution fail? They argued that the 14 th amendment properly understood enfranchised women. 7. Once she and her three sisters arrived at the Rochester Barbershop, what did Anthony demand? What was the outcome at the Rochester Barbershop? Anthony was the “spokeswoman” for all the women, and demanded that they be signed up to vote. The men who we’re all young enough to be her son, refused to her demand. Then she threatened to sue them all for damages. It strengthened the women’s rights movement, and it would give them a goal. -1 15. How long would it take for Anthony and Stanton to find a senator willing to propose a new amendment to the Constitution—guaranteeing the vote to women? Who was the senator who proposed the amendment? It took them three years to convince a senator, and finally on January 10,1878 Repblican Senator Aaron Sargent proposed a new amendment to the constitution. 16. The proposed new amendment would not make it out of committee. How often would it have to be reintroduced to Congress? It would have to be reintroduced into every session of congress for the next 45 years. 17. What was the most important development in the last quarter of the 19th century? The proliferation of women’s organizations which bring women into public activism, and at times political engagement. Anthony saw the possibility of building a mass women’s suffrage movement. 18. Frances Willard was the president of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union. What did she want and why? She wanted the vote for women to be passed, so that she could outlaw alcohol and extend christian morality into every aspect of civic life.
