HCA-410 Session 2 Interview Paper
I learned a lot by doing this interview. It impacted my view of financial management in healthcare because I was able to see how it directly affects daily operations as well as how the rest of the organization can run. I was able to ask many questions. I will be taking the nursing home administration federal and state exam in May. Talking with Analise White reduced my anxiety. I was able to see the impact of proper financial management can steer an organization in
the proper direction. The person I interviewed was Analise White. Since she is a Nursing Home Administrator, she is responsible for budgeting and annual profits. She has a Bachelors degree in
healthcare administration. She then took a state and federal exam that allowed her to gey the NHA license. The most valuable training for her was the hands-on portion. She mentions that reading stuff in a book and applying to help steer an organization can be challenging at times. There is a delicate balance between driving high profits and ensuring high quality care. This is the most challenging part of financial management. The performance requirements are set by state and federal guidelines. We want open communications, teaming and collaboration. This ensures high performance outcomes.
Analise, also mentioned that they are always on the lookout for elder neglect and/or abuse. They want to make sure high quality care is given, and frequently. Reporting this is

QUESTION 10
Syhoo Senior Center, a not-for-profit entity, enjoys the services of a group of high-school-age people who each agree to
work three afternoons a week for three hours each afternoon performing a variety of patient-related services, such as
writing letters for those who are unable to do so, delivering mail to the patient rooms, and pushing wheel-chair patients
across the grounds. The services rendered by these young people enhance the quality of life for the residents. They
could not be provided if they were not donated because there are not enough resources to do so. In year 2019, the
young people donated 5,000 hours in total. The services would have cost $10.00 per hour if they had been purchased
but they were worth $20 an hour to Syhoo Senior Center. A local CPA firm also donates its services to prepare the
annual tax return and other federal and state required paperwork which must be filed to maintain its status as a tax-
exempt organization. During 2019 the CPA firm…

In advance of your presentation, you have been given the following three questions. What are we referring to when we discuss the “optimal capital structure” of a business? Why is the optimal capital structure also referred to as the “target capital structure”?
For a health care entity, in particular, what are some factors that you must…

(Comprehensive Problem) Suppose that you are in the fall of your senior year and are faced with the choice of either getting a job when you graduate or going to law school. Of course, your choice is not purely financial. However, to make an informed decision you would like to know the financial implications of the two alternatives. Let's assume that your alternatives are as follows:
If you take the "get a job" route you expect to start off with a salary of
$35,000
per year. There is no way to predict what will happen in the future, your best guess is that your salary will grow at
4
percent per year until you retire in
42
years. As a law student, you will be paying
$30,000
per year tuition for each of the
3
years you are in graduate school. However, you can then expect a job with a starting salary of
$75,000
per year. Moreover, you expect your salary to grow by
7
percent per year until you retire
36
years later.

QUESTION 1
Parktown Medical Center, Inc., is a small health care provider owned by a publicly heldcorporation.
It employs 7 salaried physicians, 10 nurses, 3 support staff, and 3 clericalworkers. The clerical workers perform such tasks as reception, correspondence, cash receipts, billing, and appointment scheduling. All are adequately bonded. Most patients pay for services rendered by cash or check on the day of their visit. Sometimes, however, the physician who is to perform the respective services approves credit based on an interview. When credit is approved, the physician files a memo with one of the clerks to set up the receivable using data the physician generates. The servicing physician prepares a charge slip that is given to one of the clerksfor pricing and preparation of the patient’s bill. At the end of the day, one of the clerks uses the bills to prepare a revenue summary and, in cases of credit sales, to update the accounts receivable subsidiary ledger. The front office…
